About the Course

ICDL is made up of a range of modules, categorised as: Base modules, Standard modules, and Advanced modules.

Each ICDL module provides a practical programme of up-to-date skills and knowledge areas which are validated by a test.
This range of modules will enable you to develop and certify your computer skills in the subject areas of your choosing and to the level that you need – either for work, or for day-to-day life.

Course Structure

IT & Computer Skills (WSQ Course)

- Understand key concepts relating to ICT, computers, devices and software
- Start up and shut down a computer
- Work effectively on the computer desktop using icons, windows
- Adjust the main operating system settings and use built-in help features
- Create a simple document and print an output
- Know & apply the main concepts of file & folder management & organisation
- Understand key storage concepts and use software to compress re-size large files
- Understand & apply network concepts & connection options for network connection
- Understand the importance of protecting data and devices from malware
- Recognise considerations relating to green IT, accessibility, and user health.
- Identify different types of computers as well as their main components and be able to log on to a computer and understand the basic function of a mouse and keyboard
- Understand and use common desktop icons and the taskbar and be able to shut-down a computer
- Identify the main parts of a window, work with windows, and identify the main types of storage media and programme applications
- Create, format, save and print a document
- Identify files and folders and recognise common file types
- Understand the Internet, the World Wide Web and the importance of evaluating information on World Wide Web
- Use a Web browser and a search engine and be able to complete and submit Web based forms and understand the concept of an online virtual community
- Understand the structure of an email address
- Work with documents and save them in different file formats
- Choose built-in options, such as the Help function, to enhance productivity
- Create and edit small-sized word processing documents that will be ready to share and distribute
- Apply different formats to documents to enhance them before distribution; recognise good practice in choosing the appropriate formatting options
- Insert tables, images, and drawn objects into documents
- Prepare documents for mail merge operations
- Adjust document page settings
- Check and correct spelling before finally printing documents
- Apply advanced text, paragraph, column and table formatting.
- Work with referencing features like footnotes, endnotes and captions.
- Create tables of contents, indexes and cross-references.
- Enhance productivity by using fields, forms and templates.
- Apply advanced mail merge techniques and work with automation features like macros.
- Use linking and embedding features to integrate data.
- Collaborate on and review documents.
- Work with master documents and subdocuments. Apply document security features.
- Work with watermarks, sections, and headers and footers in a document.
- Work with presentations and save them in different file formats
- Choose built-in options, such as the Help function, within the application to enhance productivity
- Understand different presentation views and when to use them; choose different slide layouts and designs
- Enter, edit, and format text in presentations
- Recognise good practice in applying unique titles to slides
- Choose, create, and format charts to communicate information meaningfully Insert and edit pictures, images, and drawn objects
- Apply animation and transition effects to presentations
- Check and correct presentation content before finally printing and giving presentations
- Understand target audience and venue considerations in presentation planning.
- Create and modify templates and format slide backgrounds.
- Enhance a presentation using built-in drawing and image tools.
- Apply advanced chart formatting features and create and edit diagrams. Insert movies and sound and apply built-in animation features.
- Use linking, embedding, importing and exporting features to integrate data.
- Work with custom slide shows, apply slide show settings, and control a slide show.
- Work with spreadsheets and save them in different file formats
- Choose built-in options, such as the Help function, within the application to enhance productivity
- Enter data into cells; use good practice in creating lists
- Select, sort and copy, move and delete data edit rows and columns in a worksheet
- Copy, move, delete, and appropriately rename worksheets
- Create mathematical and logical formulas using standard spreadsheet functions; use good practice in formula creation; recognise error values in formulas
- Format numbers and text content in a spreadsheet
- Choose, create, and format charts to communicate information meaningfully
- Adjust spreadsheet page settings
- Check and correct spreadsheet content before finally printing spreadsheets
- Apply advanced formatting options such as conditional formatting and customised number formatting and handle worksheets.
Use functions such as those associated with logical, statistical, financial and mathematical operations.
- Create charts and apply advanced chart formatting features.
- Work with tables and lists to analyse, filter and sort data. Create and use scenarios.
- Validate and audit spreadsheet data.
- Enhance productivity by working with named cell ranges, macros and templates.
- Use linking, embedding and importing features to integrate data.
- Collaborate on and review spreadsheets. Apply spreadsheet security features.
